City of Greater Geelong Council
Bellarine Ward Candidate for Re-election -  Jim Mason AM

Since my election in 2017 as a Bellarine Ward Councilor, I have worked energetically for the Municipality, engaging enthusiastically in many, varied council activities.

I support COVID-19 Recovery Packages which will enable an early return to the 30-Year Vision and Council Plan 2018-22 in 2021. This includes fostering an inclusive, safe and healthy community, effective environmental management and planned, sustainable development.

I have advocated vigorously for the wide ranging needs of the Bellarine. These include protecting rural and coastal environments, maintaining the unique character of our townships and developing connected shared pathways. Improving sporting facilities, social, cultural and lifestyle amenities and providing better opportunities for our youth are high on my priorities.

I maintained high attendance and resilience at Council meetings and the 18 portfolios and committees which I served on. This has effectively been my full-time job.

Raised on The Bellarine, I completed my Tertiary Studies in Civil Engineering and International Relations in Geelong. I have rich and diverse leadership experience, in Australia and overseas. Since re-settling on the Bellarine in 1999 I have been an active member of the community.

I always work in an independent and consultative way. I believe in team work and only support ethical practices. I will apply social, business and scientific data to decision making. My skills were developed and refined through my international humanitarian work, where I led large disaster recovery programs.

It is vital for Council to continue with a programme that ensures local and global climate action integrated with environmentally sustainable housing, business and recreational development. It must continue to encourage best practice in agriculture.

If re-elected I will consult, consider and act for what is best for the Bellarine.

No town or district will be left out.
